About Ballet Florida’s Apprentice Ensemble
The Apprentice Ensemble is Ballet Florida’s official pre-professional performance company for dedicated dancers ages 11–18. Admission is by audition only and is open to both current Ballet Florida students and non-enrolled dancers. Upon acceptance, all ensemble members must register as Ballet Florida Academy students.
This elite ensemble offers selected dancers the opportunity to train and perform at a high level, representing Ballet Florida in exclusive performances, community events, and prestigious dance festivals throughout the season. The program is designed to cultivate artistic excellence, stage experience, and a deeper understanding of company life. Ensemble dancers will benefit from the mentorship of experienced instructors and professional company artists, allowing them to gain insights into the professional dance world.
Acceptance into the Apprentice Ensemble requires a commitment to seasonal rehearsals. Rehearsal schedules will be determined based on upcoming performances and communicated in advance. Students must demonstrate a high level of professionalism, dedication, and a readiness to grow both technically and artistically.
Participation in the Apprentice Ensemble is a tuition-free privilege (a one-time ensemble commitment fee of $100 is required upon acceptance).
What to Expect in the Audition
Dancers will be evaluated in the following areas:
Classical Ballet Technique
Pointe Work (for applicable dancers)
Modern/Contemporary Movement
Repertoire & Performance Quality
Students should arrive prepared with proper attire and hair neatly secured. Pointe shoes should be worn if the dancer has prior training and is currently working en pointe. The audition will assess technical ability, artistry, musicality, and the dancer’s potential for growth within a pre-professional company setting.
